International Artists Verónica and Edwin Dam de Nogales have created a self- standing large scale work of art in response to Global Warming and Climate Change, being placed temporarily in Madrids well renouned Plaza Colon for the COP25 2019. The work of a polar bear melting with the ice, draws an emotional appeal to re-connect the human-animal bond on a global scale reminding us in an impacting way of the dependency of the animal kingdom on responsible human action. As the ice melts, so too do the animals that rely on it for their survival disappear. The connection of life to ice is unquestionable. There is a powerful and impactful truth being presented, a truth which must be faced.
The Melting Ice Bear deals with the tender balance humans too easily tip, whether through negligence or willful ignorance. The work focuses on the acceptance of the responsibility that comes with the realization of the strong connectivity between wildlife and wildlife habitat. Stark, and solemn, the artwork imbues a sense of loss and absence, but not without hope. The hope is that words and images lead to decisive action, human action is curved enough to allow Nature to restore the lands for those with whom we share them.
